I should have gotten this art book a long time ago 😍 I already knew it was amazing, but I was still amazed by the overall design and content of the book many times when I actually got my hands on it!

"Dorohedoro" is a manga series by Kyu Hayashida, serialized from 2000 to 2018. Chang Hong Publishing in Taiwan has published a complete set of 23 volumes.Comic Collector's EditionActually, Dorohedoro's theme isn't typical of what I would love—gore, action, fantasy magic, the bizarre, or dark humor—but I was still drawn in by the world-building, character development, and amazing concepts, falling into Dorohedoro's chaotic world 💀 The well-developed and imaginative (and sometimes cute) plot was very enjoyable to watch!

I also really like that the story has very few main characters (or so-called villains) that are annoying, and only mysteries that are gradually revealed.

I have never been in contact with "Monster CityAs for the manga, I highly recommend starting with...AnimationIt's all set (the complete first season of 12 episodes + 1 bonus episode is available on Netflix). Released in 2020, this well-made anime adaptation by MAPPA perfectly captures the style of the original work; the animation and voice acting bring the characters to life, and I absolutely love the various quirky opening and ending themes! 🙃 (The ending theme has been changed countless times!)

Let's take a look at this book, *Dorohedoro Art Book: MUD AND SLUDGE*. It comes with a hardcover binding. The book is B5 in size, not as large as typical art books, so its weight won't hinder the reading experience.

The quality of the book's binding, printing, and content is truly remarkable! The book design was handled by renowned Japanese book designers Shin Sobue and Yo Fujii (design firm cozfish).

The book cover is the same as the book case, and the cover printing features silver foil with a partial UV coating, giving it a very high-quality feel. Upon opening it, you're greeted by a high-quality printed page, using premium coated paper with partial UV coating to showcase texture and rich colors! (This page is unique!)

This art book comprehensively collects various illustrations from the manga's serialization, totaling 344 pages. The most memorable piece is likely the cover illustration's "mixed media" artwork, faithfully depicting everything imaginable and unimaginable, including leaves, artificial turf, railway models, and barbed wire. In addition, it contains a wealth of setting materials and sketches.

I also particularly love the visual presentation of the black and white manuscript pages 💙 (about 40 pages), which I think is a major highlight! In addition to the simulated manuscript paper texture, the paper quality and printing are very carefully matched, and you can only appreciate the delicate line printing by actually flipping through the pages!

The book truly uses a variety of paper types and printing methods to fully present the visual effects of the artwork! (There's also a small kraft paper sketch, which looks like a piece of paper casually tucked inside~) It can be used as a printing reference manual XD The vibrant colors, brushstrokes, and halo effects are all faithfully presented on the book, just like viewing an original art exhibition, each page bringing a sense of amazement!

Even if you're not a fan of "Dorohedoro," I highly recommend collecting this outstanding art book that balances both aesthetics and depth! (But I still highly recommend reading it!)

In addition, there are two other "Dorohedoro" publications that are well worth collecting, both of which are Japanese editions:

About the Author

Hayashida Q

A Japanese manga artist born in 1977. He graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts.

He debuted in 1997 with the TV series "Sofa Sauce," for which he won second place at the Four Seasons Awards. His drawing style is characterized by its boldness yet delicacy. He pays close attention to the depiction of the human body, backgrounds, and character details. His distinctive style features many muscular men and women sketched with pencil without erasing, boldly applying colored sketches without regard for omissions or impurities.

While many of the descriptions are bizarre, such as intense fights with flying blood, gore, and entrails, there are also many endearing and humorous depictions of everyday life, all mixed together to create a unique atmosphere. In an interview with the author of the first issue of *Quarterly S* (Style / Asuka Shinsha), he stated that he was deeply influenced by shonen manga works such as *Weekly Shonen Jump*.
