This book, *The Complete Guide to Studio Ghibli Films*, originated from the British podcast program...GhibliothequeThis book, a collaborative effort between two Studio Ghibli fans and media professionals, is a testament to their passion for Studio Ghibli animation. It offers a unique, unofficial, Western perspective on these globally influential masterpieces.

It's not really a picture book (just a personal unboxing 💕)
Although it's not an official publication, the book contains quite a lot of movie stills and promotional images! I really enjoyed reading it 😆, especially since it gives you a comprehensive overview of Studio Ghibli's entire filmography (24 films from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind in 1984 to Anya and the Witch in 2020).
The content includes introductions to animated works, reviews, and some little-known facts.
(For more detailed background information on the production process, we recommend referring to the official publications.)
(Unless something unexpected happens in the future, we will gradually release art books for each work, but it will probably be very slow 🤣)

Taking advantage of the recent re-release of the 20th anniversary edition of *Spirited Away* in Taiwan, I revisited this classic film, gaining new insights into the characters and the story! (But you really have to see it in theaters to fully enjoy the work!) I'm so looking forward to the upcoming series of Studio Ghibli re-releases (I think so, I saw the trailer for *Castle in the Sky* this time), I want to watch them all XD
I also find it difficult to rank my favorite works; I love many classic pieces every time I watch them!

Official Introduction
The first illustrated encyclopedic book on "Gibberish Mechanics" in the English-speaking world.
Explore all of Studio Ghibli's works through vivid, engaging, and informative writing.
Featuring nearly 200 exquisite images, this is a must-have guide for Studio Ghibli fans.
"I want to create a film that is realistic, exciting, a little ironic, but most importantly, beautiful. I want to depict someone who earnestly pursues their dreams. Dreams have a kind of insane toxicity, and this toxicity cannot be hidden." — Hayao Miyazaki, written in 2011 in the production plan for "The Wind Rises".
The whirlwind of Studio Ghibli animated films has never stopped sweeping the globe. In addition to blockbuster movies, they have also launched a series of merchandise and opened art museums. Ghibli Park is also scheduled to open at the end of 2022, continuing to capture the hearts of movie fans.
Studio Ghibli was founded on June 15, 1985. The studio's name was inspired by Hayao Miyazaki, a flight enthusiast who named it after the Italian air patrol unit "Ghibli" during World War II. The Italian word means "warm air current blowing from the Sahara to the Mediterranean." Since its inception, Ghibli has swept through the Japanese animation industry like a warm current of creativity. From *Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind* in 1984 to *Anya and the Witch* in 2020, Ghibli's animated works are cherished memories for many and have influenced countless creators, making it an insurmountable mountain in animation history.
Hayao Miyazaki, now 81 years old, began his creative career in the 1960s, completing his first animated feature film, *Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro*, in 1979. At the time, Toshio Suzuki, an editor at Animage magazine, was a devoted supporter of Miyazaki and invited him to serialize the *Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind* manga in the magazine starting in 1982, with the animated feature film released in 1984. Later, Suzuki, Miyazaki, and his mentor Isao Takahata became the three giants of Studio Ghibli, founding the studio and producing a series of popular animated feature films, laying the foundation for their future success.
Toshio Suzuki was Studio Ghibli's chief strategist, finding funding and talent for the studio, and doing everything he could to bring their works to the international stage. Under his protection, animation geniuses Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata were able to fully unleash their talents. Miyazaki's works are renowned for their fantasy themes, expressing without reservation a love of flight, anti-war sentiments, environmental awareness, and a yearning for world harmony; while Takahata emphasized "tireless research" and "meticulous realism," paying meticulous attention to detail and striving for stylistic breakthroughs. These two masters supported Studio Ghibli and also dedicated themselves to nurturing the studio's younger generation of animators—Hideaki Anno, Yoshiaki Nishimura, Hiromasa Yonebayashi, Sunao Katabuchi… all of whom later became independent animators.
This latest Ghibli film book reviews every Ghibli feature film, accompanied by numerous exquisite stills and posters, photos of the creative team and studio, leading readers to push open the plant-covered doors of the Ghibli studio and enter the magical world of Ghibli.
Adapted from the acclaimed podcast Ghibliotheque, this book is arguably the first encyclopedia of Ghibli in the English-speaking world. Each paragraph feels like a reenactment of the podcast recording, written in a light and engaging style. Reading this book is like having two seasoned Ghibli enthusiasts sitting beside you, meticulously explaining the opening and ending of each film, and revealing the warmth and full scope of Ghibli's works, leaving you wanting more.
In the book, we are as if riding on Ghibli's imaginative glider, soaring through the skies of fantasy, witnessing every exhilarating moment in Ghibli's works: Nausicaä riding the wind across the Sea of Decay, Pazu and Sheeta chanting the ancient spell of the Sky Castle, Mei falling onto Totoro's belly in the forest, Setsuko and Seita's smiles under a sky full of fireflies, the moment Kiki takes flight, San the Magical Princess's resolute gaze, Chihiro recalling her past with Haku… Ghibli combines style and storytelling to bring precious treasures to the world, repeatedly inspiring people with courage and hope. They create not just animation, but also an ideal of starting anew with the world. Love and friendship, growth and sacrifice, environment and peace… these are all recurring themes in Ghibli's creations.
This book takes us through each stage of Studio Ghibli's history, delving into the creative and career struggles of Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata, and witnessing the fresh creative visions of new directors like Goro Miyazaki and Hiromasa Yonebayashi. From its humble beginnings to its current renown, Studio Ghibli has announced the cessation of animation production more than once. However, with the recent completion of the Ghibli Museum and Park, and Miyazaki's return to directing "How Do You Live?", it seems to be declaring that Studio Ghibli's vibrant vitality will not cease.
Let's embark on our journey into the world of Studio Ghibli, starting with the iconic opening sequence of "My Neighbor Totoro"!
