More than a year later, pixiv and Gaia Culture have once again joined forces to launch the "Artists in Taiwan" series, a catalog of Taiwanese illustrators. Following the previous book...Artists in Taiwan: Taiwanese illustrations. Cartoonist Art CollectionJust as amazing as [the original title]!

I was once again struck by the abundance of outstanding illustrators and creative energy in Taiwan; this art book showcases many fantastic works at once :)

The exterior maintains the same design, with consistent color scheme from the cover, dust jacket, fold-out pages to the inner cover. The three books (plus "Artists in Korea") look great side by side! The titles also feature beautiful iridescent silver foil stamping. ✨

Of the 82 illustrators included, about ten overlap with the 83 illustrators included in the previous volume in 2021, allowing you to see different works by the same artist. However, most of them are illustrators who were not included before.

The cover artist, Tian Zhi Huo, is known for her work featuring Taiwanese office ladies. You can find many familiar street scenes in her cover art (electric transformer boxes, eco-friendly cup bags, various delivery services, well-known beverage shops, etc. XD).

Each illustrator has only 2 pages, so the number of works included is limited (we felt that if there were more than 2-3 works, the images would be a bit too small). In addition to the works, there is also information about the illustrator and their social media accounts, with a self-introduction in both Chinese and Japanese at the bottom.

The art book concludes with six-page interviews with illustrators Ten no Kaga and kurikO Kurikacha, discussing their creative process and thoughts on their works. It also includes an interview with Hayashi Shihei, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Shueisha's Shonen Jump+, who discusses the connections and differences between manga and illustration, as well as sharing his experience in editing.

It was particularly noteworthy that this was actually "Artists in Taiwan 2022" and another book...Artists in KoreaBoth books were released in Chinese (they likely each have their own Japanese and Korean versions), with similar overall layouts. The latter features illustrators from 78 Korean artists. I feel the covers of the two books are somewhat related, both incorporating street scenes from their respective countries and coincidentally featuring vehicles (motorcycles & bicycles) XD

It's fantastic to have a book dedicated to Taiwanese illustrators; I hope they can continue publishing one every year!
