【Excerpt from Interview】

--The pen name "Cat General" is very memorable. May I ask how it came about?

There was a popular game at the time when I was choosing a name, and "Cat General" was the name of a god who appeared in it. I liked the name so I just used it. I almost always pick names without thinking too much and have been using them ever since (laughs).

--Does Teacher Cat General pay special attention to or emphasize any particular aspect when creating his paintings?

When I paint, the most important thing I pay attention to is the balance of "black". Even when I'm painting a colored picture, I carefully consider where to place the black. I usually decide on the balance of the black first, and then slowly add other colors.

--How long does it take Mr. Cat General to draw each piece?

It can be completed in a day or two if it goes quickly, but it might take about two weeks if it goes slowly. The most time-consuming part of the drawing process is deciding on the theme and composition. For work-related drawings, the theme and composition are usually already decided, so you can start without hesitation. Although personal creations can be very imaginative, there are no rules about the content or deadlines, so it can sometimes take a really long time.

Nekoshowgun (Cat General)

Born in 1982, he resides in Wakayama Prefecture.

The subjects I like to depict include insects, animals, women, gems, meat and sweets, and I especially love lizards.
