"Festival" is an illustrator's collection published by the Japanese "MdN Editorial Department". It brings together illustrations by 33 Japanese illustrators on the theme of "festivals", including: new works and teaching sharing from 6 illustrators, and selected works from 27 illustrators.

Because of the joyful and lively theme of "festival", I originally thought that the illustrations included would be more warm-colored (like the colorful pink and red on the cover) and have a celebratory theme. However, to my surprise, there were quite a few works with the same overall tone or dark colors, with great light and shadow effects or a mysterious atmosphere. Each one was a pleasant surprise!

The elements that left a deep impression were goldfish and witches XD (everyone loves witches, there are so many pictures of them~~🧙‍♀️)

160 pages, well-organized. The illustrations included are all exquisite and pleasing to the eye 😊 Each illustrator has only about 3 to 5 works featured, showcasing the outstanding pieces carefully selected by each artist!

The book includes six new illustrations, along with their creation process and creative insights. At the end of the book, there is a comprehensive introduction or postscript, social media accounts, and contact information for each illustrator.

A Festival illustrated by an emerging illustrator

Tenmangu Shrine, dedicated to Sugawara no Michizane, the god of learning, specially chose the anniversary of Sugawara no Michizane's death to hold the Tenjin Festival. This Tenjin Festival includes the "Riku-do-go" (land procession) and the "Fun-do-go" (water festival). In addition, the Kamo Festival, held in the Heian period to pray for favorable weather and abundant harvests, used sunflowers and sunflower leaves as decorations for the procession, which symbolized protection against natural disasters. Therefore, it was later renamed the Sunflower Festival. Various festivals exist throughout Japan. This magazine specially invited emerging illustrators such as potg and Kawadita 9 to depict the various atmospheres of the festivals, such as fantasy, solemnity, etc.
