About the Author
Hayao Miyazaki
Born in Tokyo in 1941. After graduating from the Faculty of Political Science and Economics at Gakushuin University, he joined Toei Animation. He participated in the original manuscript and scene design for "The Great Adventure of Horus, Prince of the Sun" (1968). In "Panda Family" (1972), he served as the original manuscript, original concept, scriptwriter, and animation designer. In 1973, he switched jobs with Isao Takahata, and later worked at Nippon Animation Telecom. In 1985, he established his own studio, 2Philips Animation. He directed "Future Boy" (1978) and "Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro" (1979). His manga, serialized in Monthly Animage, became the blueprint for the future film adaptation, and in 1984, he directed the film adaptation of "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind." His subsequent film credits include Castle in the Sky (1986), My Neighbor Totoro (1988), Kiki's Delivery Service (1989), Porco Rosso (1992), Princess Mononoke (1997), and Spirited Away (2001). He also currently serves as the director of the Miyazaki Museum in Mitaka.
