📍 Exhibition Introduction

Original Artwork Exhibition for "Forgotten God II: Cat-Eye Witch"

Through the poetic lines of cartoonist Yeh Chang-ching, a fantastical journey about persecution, exile, and love unfolds.

Yeh Chang-ching's "God of Oblivion" series is based in Taiwan and uses a narrative style that is different from mainstream comics. With a brisk and light rhythm, he boldly abandons the usual creative framework. With pure intuition, he has completed "God of Oblivion II: Cat-Eye Witch" which is closer to the free-flowing narrative style of European comics (BD). The original manuscript of this comic will be exhibited at "Jaws & Gods and Monsters Studio" starting from March 8.

*The Forgotten God II: Cat-Eye Witch* continues the story of its predecessor, using a comic book format to depict gods and monsters forgotten by time. The story stretches from Taiwan to distant Spain, where the celestial painter "Mo Yu," commissioned by the Jade Emperor, searches for lost deities and monsters, recording their fading tales. On this journey, she discovers a legendary witch named "Masa"—inspired by the "Maxa-daxedaxe" from the legends of the Bazai and Gaha shaman tribes of Taiwan.

These powerful witches are said to haunt the night and commit evil deeds. They wear cat eyes, cast "black magic," and can fly, manipulate objects from a distance, shapeshift, and even extract children's hearts to enhance their power. Changqing brings this Taiwanese witch into the historical context of the 16th-century European witch hunt era, creating a cross-cultural dialogue space.

In the comic, this Taiwanese witch with cat-like eyes flies across the night on a banana leaf and descends upon the distant Plaza de Madrid, where she is mistaken for Lucifer by Spanish monks! In that era filled with fear, prejudice, and religious oppression, the witch hunts in Europe executed tens of thousands (mainly women) in the name of "witches," but in reality, it was often a systematic persecution targeting independent women, intellectuals, minorities, or homosexuals. Through the emotional connection between the witch and a Gypsy woman, the background of Yeh Chang-ching's comic seems to also narrate the cruel reality of "intolerance for dissent" that may exist in various eras.

Chang Qing, a leading figure in contemporary local monster illustration, brings precious manuscripts this time, showcasing his profound painting skills. Behind those smooth and unrestrained lines lies the sincere emotion of impromptu creation, inviting everyone to enter this fantastical comic world that transcends time and space.
