It was the first time I came into contact with TCB's works through this collection of paintings, and I was quite attracted by the details of the illustrations, such as the butterfly specimens, clothing textures, and gems (amber?) on the cover.

TCB’s illustrations are mainly thick-coated. It’s interesting to see this paragraph in the interview at the end of the book: "Almost all the masters who contributed to the drawing BBS in the middle school period used thick-coating techniques, so let me have a kind of "thick-coating = Feeling like a master.” So the author’s current style is derived from the impression at the time. XD I also quite like this type of work!

The most famous among them should be the "fairy tale makeup" series, which combines the protagonist of the fairy tale with makeup palettes and lipstick products. Designed a "fairy tale makeup" series inspired by fairy tale characters such as Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, and Alice in Wonderland. TCB, a well-known painter with super popularity, finally officially published the first collection of personal works. He is a manga artist and an illustrator, and his active fields range from book covers to CD packaging, product design, etc., and even character design for video games.

In addition to the selection of illustrations published so far, this book also includes the production process and explanations of the two illustrations, as well as black-and-white sketches and interviews with the authors. A popular painter instructs digital drawing skills in detail. ──Have you been influenced by any works when you were a child?

I used to read comics when I was in elementary school. At that time, I especially liked Ribon's "Kamikaze the Strange Thieves" and "Amazing Teacher God Eyebrow" by the boy Jump. I have been thinking about creating works from this time, hoping that one day I can engage in painting-related work.

──It turns out that you have considered painting work since your early childhood.

Yes. It's just that, as a child, I certainly don't have relevant knowledge. I just generally hope that I can do work related to drawing in the future. Back then, there was no digital environment like now, and it was very popular to use postcards to post works to media such as "Fanroad" or "Kodansha FAMOUS SCHOOLS". At that time, I thought about everything that was steelmaking by indigenous methods, and thought that all the comics outlets were all hand-painted (laughs).

──There should be many people who have met you through a series of makeup based on the concept of fairy tales, "Fairy Tale Makeup". Please talk to us about the entire project.

"Fairy Tale Makeup" is a project that started with my posting on Twitter. I know that there are a few fairy tale-themed makeup products, but none of them I want to buy. As a result, I drew the products I would want and posted them on Twitter, which received an unexpectedly large response. Later, the person in charge of fairy tale make-up approached me to negotiate and began to plan the actual production of the product. Although I didn't have much interest in the commercialization of fairy tale makeup at the beginning, instead of regretting not doing it, I wanted to regret it again, so I decided to invest in this project.
